Creation

I don’t just take pictures, I do a lot of digital art, too.  Its typically nature themed, but they are rather different, odd, vintage and colourful.  Most of them have little backstories, or are inspired by a piece of music or podcast, show or just life. (I wrote a post on some of what I listen to here)

snake 3

IMG_20170406_073239_008I made the above artwork while listening to The Message/LifeAfter. It was rainy, gloomy and cold outside, and I did the old check-over-the-shoulder-at-unknown-noise thing a couple of times LOL! Anyway, back to the art. I had watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade a couple days ago, so I got to thinking that I should do something with a cup. NOT The Grail, but still a cup of power, a cup of offerings, libation. Then, the snake, culturally a symbol of birth, rebirth, and creation tales.  I got to really thinking that this was creativity, being born again and again from our own psyche, our own powers, pieces of us.  Some deep shit right there. LOL. I love symbolism.

But, really, most things are created this way, from things we see, hear, and, well, from within, or a Muse. Muse, another recent obsession of mine. Anyway, I hope you enjoy these pieces. And I hope your creativity finds no end, like the never-ending snake, re-making itself again and again.

The Muses

Posted on

IMG_20170331_060650_719Lately, I have been trying to find information on the The Muses, the Greek Gods of the Arts. There is surprisingly very little out there, even though it has been the artists crutch/inspiration for hundreds of years. I research a lot behind the scenes for my books and art pieces, and this one quickly becoming a time consuming conquest. The reason I set off down this road was because I have never created so much art as I have with Roland. Starting in the last half of my pregnancy I have started or finished 40 different artworks (short stories, book projects, photos, digital art) and I thought hmmm Ro is my Muse! Then I thought I should write or make an art piece on the Muse….and here I am, reading a dissertation from 1993, which may be the best info I have found yet lol!! Anyway, if anyone out there knows a good book on muses, even a fiction/fantasy let me know!

We all have a playlist, the one that works perfect for whatever it is you are doing, or how you are feeling. Bad day at work? Make it loud and angry. Heartsick? Make it soulful and melodious. Working with a Bebe? Make it Disney tunes. In the car alone? Songs you sing bloody loud and think you sound A-MA-ZING!

I am a huge SPOTIFY fan, so I thought I would share my playlists with you!

Rockin’ Out While Painting

Relaxing Songs For Creating

Instrumental Music For Creating (this is my fav when writing)

I made these while listening to Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight Jennifer Hudson Version

Lost Stars

I made this one while listening to Lost Stars by Keira Knightley/Adam Levine on the Begin Again Soundtrack.

Got some favorites you love? Podcasts, instrumental, choir, acoustical?

Fancy New Work Abound!

Posted on

I have been a busy bee creating new digital artwork. I recently watched Sing, which was cute, but I LOVED the song Golden Slumbers covered by Jennifer Hudson. I played it on repeat while working on all my art, and then named a couple pieces after it lol! This is a new collection of collages made from illustrations scanned from vintage books and texts, mixed with photo filters and photographs. Here are the first few I have released:

Dictionary of Rad Words is a collection of words that I love, curated with my photography or vintage images and typography. This was so much fun to make, I love learning new words, obscure words we don’t use much in daily conversation.  Or simply strong words, like Gumption, that make you feel inspired and strong, or silly words like Bumbershoot that make for fun home decor pieces or awesome gifts.

ABOVE: All the notebooks with my new artwork on them.

My store is full of neat gift ideas, unique home decor or just cool things to spoil yourself with. Some of the newer decor items are thick kitchen or bathroom mats, or giant floor pillows, excellent for kids to hang out on!
