Lately, I have been trying to find information on the The Muses, the Greek Gods of the Arts. There is surprisingly very little out there, even though it has been the artists crutch/inspiration for hundreds of years. I research a lot behind the scenes for my books and art pieces, and this one quickly becoming a time consuming conquest. The reason I set off down this road was because I have never created so much art as I have with Roland. Starting in the last half of my pregnancy I have started or finished 40 different artworks (short stories, book projects, photos, digital art) and I thought hmmm Ro is my Muse! Then I thought I should write or make an art piece on the Muse….and here I am, reading a dissertation from 1993, which may be the best info I have found yet lol!! Anyway, if anyone out there knows a good book on muses, even a fiction/fantasy let me know!

First of all, I love the idea of asking your characters questions, see who they are, what their motivators are. So here is a short list I made, feel free to download! (my books are typically fantasy, or have supernatural twists so questions MAY lean towards those genres). I got most of these ideas from Chuck Wendig, whose blog is amazing (humorous, swift kick in the ass advice), but googling character questions brings up a plethora of information.
Next will be use of magic. Man, this list really made me go, ‘oh, shit, I never thought of that’. I think knowing a lot of these will make my writing better, and help build a more solid story.
Lastly, general advice. These are my favorites that I have collected, and if you like them, you can follow my Writing Tips board over on Pinterest as I usually try to post them all there:
Susan Dennard: I Love getting her email, because her advice and honesty about her writing process is fantastic.
Wil Wheaton: He posts a lot of his writing on his blog, but I Love his honesty about depression and uncertainty/fear about the creating process. It’s just so relatable and sincere. I just love the guy.
Patricia C Wrede: Oh man is her blog ever full of advice. She’s also the one who wrote the above Magic Rules post. Dive in there and start learning!
She’s Novel: Sign up to get free stuff/newsletter and utilize all her resources. Lots of PDF guides (character questions, novel planning, setting guides, etc) that you can pick and choose what works for you.
