I don’t just take pictures, I do a lot of digital art, too.  Its typically nature themed, but they are rather different, odd, vintage and colourful.  Most of them have little backstories, or are inspired by a piece of music or podcast, show or just life. (I wrote a post on some of what I listen to here)

snake 3

IMG_20170406_073239_008I made the above artwork while listening to The Message/LifeAfter. It was rainy, gloomy and cold outside, and I did the old check-over-the-shoulder-at-unknown-noise thing a couple of times LOL! Anyway, back to the art. I had watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade a couple days ago, so I got to thinking that I should do something with a cup. NOT The Grail, but still a cup of power, a cup of offerings, libation. Then, the snake, culturally a symbol of birth, rebirth, and creation tales.  I got to really thinking that this was creativity, being born again and again from our own psyche, our own powers, pieces of us.  Some deep shit right there. LOL. I love symbolism.

But, really, most things are created this way, from things we see, hear, and, well, from within, or a Muse. Muse, another recent obsession of mine. Anyway, I hope you enjoy these pieces. And I hope your creativity finds no end, like the never-ending snake, re-making itself again and again.

The Muses

Posted on

IMG_20170331_060650_719Lately, I have been trying to find information on the The Muses, the Greek Gods of the Arts. There is surprisingly very little out there, even though it has been the artists crutch/inspiration for hundreds of years. I research a lot behind the scenes for my books and art pieces, and this one quickly becoming a time consuming conquest. The reason I set off down this road was because I have never created so much art as I have with Roland. Starting in the last half of my pregnancy I have started or finished 40 different artworks (short stories, book projects, photos, digital art) and I thought hmmm Ro is my Muse! Then I thought I should write or make an art piece on the Muse….and here I am, reading a dissertation from 1993, which may be the best info I have found yet lol!! Anyway, if anyone out there knows a good book on muses, even a fiction/fantasy let me know!

Working and parenting win! *falls to a heap on the floor and sleeps*

Me & Babe working away!

Managing to catch a few minutes here and there to “work” has been a lifeline. Any new parent knows that it is ridiculously hard to do anything AT ALL. I look at these pictures of myself, and they make me feel good, that I was lucky to catch 15-20 minutes of work time to get shit done.  Being a new mom is frickin hard, but I have never been so in love, creatively challenged, out of the comfort zone, inspired, awed, transformed and so many more verbs. It has been the best thing that could ever happen to me, for all the normal, obvious reasons, but, because I am writing on my art blog, I want to emphasize what it has done for my work.

Sleeping babe? Bust out the keyboard and work!

While everything takes longer to create, I respect the time so much more. I write more freely, read more non-fiction & short stories, study, learn, absorb & focus so much more than before. I have made more digital art than ever before, and I think Bebe has made me MORE creative, using bold bright colours (babies apparently see bold, contrasting colours better) & making collages like I did when I was younger. That was something I never expected to happen, mostly cuz I AM SO TIRED.  Here’s to being a parent!!

New Year Evolution

Posted on

2016 was a weird year. It was full of ups and downs, creative blocks and breakthroughs, of learning all new mindsets, both in my work and personal life, and it definitely ended with a bang!  As some of you know, I had a baby, born January 1st. The ultimate new year’s gift!! Definitely a new beginning, wouldn’t you say?

Babe & I working away

2017 is going to be about patience and growth. Honestly, my new year’s resolution is more of an evolution.

With all these changes,  I decided to update my website and blog to more accurately reflect what I enjoy:  writing advice, short stories, poetry and books. More about the creative lifestyle while also caring for a baby.  More learning about nature, the environment and hiking (once again, with a baby).

Unfortunately, my posts will probably remain sporadic as I only have a couple hours of work time with a new baby, but I hope to maybe pick a day that works best for posting, then maybe just auto-post that day.  I’m still working out the bugs.

I have a couple ideas ready for future posts, and, also, will update the writing tips post and the book list post.   Maybe get the courage to post some of my short stories…..

Alright, well lets move it along then! I need to get back to writing a poem/short story for my writing group!

Cheers!
